It’s week six of the One Room Challenge, which means it’s time for the big reveal! The actual challenge did get pushed out a little. I believe the extension goes until November 29th, however our daughter’s room is finished, complete, DONE-ZO! We love it so much, and she loves it even more. Today I’ll be sharing our ORC final reveal with you guys! Let’s jump right into it.
What we completed:
- Removed the reach in closet
- Installed new “closet” (Ikea Pax wardrobe)
- Replaced the ceiling fan
- Painted the walls and ceilings
- Sanded down the hardwood floors
- Built a DIY play kitchen
- Added some greenery with this plant
- Created a custom rainbow wall hanging
First let’s start with a before and after photo. This before and after documents six weeks worth of do it yourself projects.
The first thing we did in the room was eliminate the small reach in closet. We did this by removing all of the drywall, framing, and rebuilding a new wall. We documented this entire process on Instagram, and this blog post.
By removing the reach in closet, we were able to completely redesign the layout of the room. In the process, we upgraded her from a twin size bed to a full size bed. The main goal for this bedroom transformation was longevity. Her bed might just be my favorite DIY to date.
Scot and I built custom pull out drawers under her bed so that she could have extra storage space for her toys, blankets and doll house pieces. I covered the fronts of the drawers with this fluted trim from Home Depot! Aren’t those knobs so beautiful? They were under $5 and I got them here!
Photos vs art:
I love artwork, but will always prefer personal photographs in our home. I printed one of my daughter and I and put it in one of our favorite frames from Custom Picture Frames. We’ve had this basket for a few years now, so it’s been through alot, however it was the perfect home for her new plant. We ordered her an elephant watering can and it arrived after I took the final reveal photos, but its so cute! You can buy it here.
A second favorite do it yourself project in her room, were her cloud lights over her bed. If you missed that tutorial you can check out this video and this blog post! You have to make some for your little ones space or next party! They’re SO fun and inexpensive to create. She loves it so much!
I keep saying this is my favorite, this might be my favorite, BUT this do it yourself kitchen I built for her bedroom MIGHT actually be my favorite. I had leftover plywood from her DIY arch bed and wanted to create a little kitchen she could play with. You can check out the blog post here, and some more behind the scenes stories on Instagram here.
Believe it or not I purchased a majority of her toy kitchen accessories Everything always $1 – Shop Now” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Everything was $1 and it really made it so affordable to accessorize.
Now that you’ve seen a few of the bigger do it yourself projects we completed in this space, let’s wrap this up with all the after photos! Enjoy!
We also decided to add a little extra something to her wardrobe and drawers. For this One Room Challenge we partnered with Tempaper! They’re a peel and stick wallpaper company that has a variety of wallpapers, decals, and rugs to choose from. This wallpaper is incredibly user friendly and only requires a handful of tools to bring your wallpaper dreams to life. To install we used a squeegee and a utility knife. It is self-adhesive, repositionable, and removable. I mean honestly, Scot and I have never used wallpaper before now, and we feel confident that we could tackle it in any space of our home after installing this.
Here is a before and after of the wardrobe install.
You can see more before and after photos on our Tempaper Wallpaper Wardrobe + Drawer post here!
We decided to add it to her DIY custom storage drawers we built under her bed. Here’s a before and after of those!
I mean how magical are the wardrobe and drawers now? We absolutely love them. If you are planning a wallpaper project in the near future, we highly recommend Tempaper!
