I’m an introvert, so you won’t often see me chatting up a storm in a public setting. Truthfully I’m a homebody through and through. I also have a love of a capsule wardrobe to go hand in hand with the minimalist lifestyle we live. Last year I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and create a minimalist tank top line that would be a conversation starter.
If I am going to talk to people, I might as well talk about topics I’m passionate about, right? Sharing minimalism with others is just as freeing as it was to actually jump start this lifestyle back in 2014. I believe everyone can benefit from minimalism, and that it can heal your mindset and how you view life. The most important things are in fact not things. When we release ourselves from that expectation we are the most free we will ever be. Today I’m going to be showing you guys my minimalist tank top line!
I created three black tank tops that have three words I’m very passionate about on the front:
- Free thinker
You might be asking why I chose these three particular words for my minimalist tank top line, so let me give a quick little description of each.
This tank top is most definitely self explanatory. I am a minimalist, we practice minimalism in our home, and live in a constant state of purge. We prioritize our time with each other and take note of what has the most importance to us. One of my favorite things to do is to inspire others to take a look around their homes, recognize where their stress is coming from, and letting that stress go. We already deal with enough stress in our day to day lives, why make it worse with what takes up space in our home?
The most free I’ve ever felt was in 2014 when I acknowledged how unhappy, stressed, and frustrated I was by the expectations I was trying to uphold when it came to motherhood. I was brainwashed into believing that we must have all the things, and at the end of the day our home looked like toys r us. I was miserable, Scot saw how miserable I was, and we have never looked back.
When you’re a mom, especially a young mom, you can feel very intimidated to stand your ground. I felt easily influenced (at the time) into thinking that other’s constantly gifting us random toys and things was normal and I just had to accept it. I was spending more time cleaning up my home than I was spending time with my young children. Instead of playing and relaxing, I was apologizing for the constant mess. It felt like ground hogs day over and over and over again. Finally I decided it was up to me to decide how I was going to chose happiness.
This was the biggest break through for me personally. When you take a stand and politely decline gifts, toys, and things, you build the confidence to create the life you long for. We no longer have to deal with constant clutter or messes, because I won’t allow it to happen. Later in life, I get to look back and say, “Look how much time we were granted to spend with one another!” And that’s pretty magical.
