Refinishing our basement seven years later

It’s been a very long seven years patiently waiting to start refinishing our basement. Over the years other projects have taken precedence over this space. Today however, is finally here and we are transforming our basement. This is the largest open space in our basement. As you can see from the photos above, there are no windows in this section of the basement.

Scot and I have gone back and forth on what we wanted this room to look like for our family. Due to it’s size, and pole support placement, we opted to transform this room into a cozy movie theater. We love family movie nights and watching baseball/sports, so to say we’re all very excited about this is a huge understatement.

We will be using our Graco paint sprayer. This is the same amazing piece of machinery Scot used to paint our entire exterior in just 24 hours. This paint sprayer comes HIGHLY recommended from us. It’s extremely user friendly and doesn’t require any additional tools because it’s airless. If you’re in the market for a new paint sprayer grab this one from your local Home Depot!

I’m going to share a brief rundown on our expectations for this room.

  • Paint the ceiling and walls (with the plan of eventually installing ceilings)

  • Add baseboards, trim + moldings to walls

  • Wrap support beams

  • Install/continue the waterproof luxury vinyl floors that we put down in the hallway

  • Wrap hvac soffits with wood

A majority of the things listed above can be done all within the same day. We plan to knock out as much as possible so that we can move forward with finishing touches, making this room a little bit more inviting.

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out day one of our basement renovation. Come back tomorrow to see how much progress we’ve made!
