Do it yourself platform bed

We are currently transforming our daughter's room for the One Room Challenge. As part of the bedroom makeover, we removed her reach in closet and built a full size platform bed to put in it's place! Building a platform bed is SO easy and requires a minimal wood supply list. This bed required a handful of cuts and was put together in roughly thirty minutes. Today I'm going to show you guys how to create a do it yourself platform bed using 2x4 lumber from The Home Depot!

Materials:

2x4's

Screws

Miter saw

Drill

Tape measure

Tip:

First you'll want to figure out the measurements of your bed. For instance, we were creating a full size bed so we based our build off of a full size mattress (54 inches x 75 inches). If you already have a full size mattress on hand, it's always a good idea to tape off the dimensions onto your floor for a visual. Our older sons have full size mattresses, and we didn't add one of theirs to this platform bed until we were finished with constructing it. We definitely could've made the fit a tad tighter! Not the end of the world, just a tip.

How to:

Platform beds are so easy to create. They're simple construction that require minimal lumber and a handful of cuts. Firs you'll want to take your 2x4's and create your outside frame. We did this by essentially creating a box, and then adding a 2x4 in the center.

Using your drill and screws, attach your 2x4 boards.

Next you'll just take the measurement from the inside of the bed and make cuts to the 2x4 supports accordingly.

You can attach your supports by manually kreg jigging them, or you can use a kreg jig from The Home Depot.

We added 2x4 legs to our platform bed because we wanted to add do it yourself custom storage drawers with drawer slides underneath.
