One Room Challenge Spring 2020 Final Reveal

The day has officially arrived! We are finished with our THIRD One Room Challenge! That’s crazy to think about! Before we started this challenge we went back and forth on whether we were going to tackle our outdoor space or the hallway. We are SO glad we went with our hallway, because it has done nothing but rain, rain, rain, and rain some more here. The weather wouldn’t have been ideal. I was also worried that our hallway would be too “boring” to transform. Now looking at these final photos, I feel so dumb ever using the word boring to describe our hallway.

Our hallway went from scary to sophisticated minimalist in six weeks, and we are obsessed and so happy with how everything came together. This One Room Challenge post is mostly going to contain after photos, however I always like to include before and after photos so you can see just how far the space has come! It really puts it in perspective when you see them side by side.

Below is the listing photo for our hallway when we moved in.

Is that not the craziest transformation?! It doesn’t even look like the same house.

We wanted to do a wood slat feature on the stairs going down to the basement instead of a solid wall so that the small space appeared larger. Scot was able to remove one of our ducts that was just to the right of the slats, however we still have one more return in the hallway downstairs, so I’ll take photos from a lower angle once that’s finished!

I made a HUGE DIY joint compound art to hang above our basement stairs, and it’s the perfect centerpiece for this hallway. We added an additional can light above the basement stairs, and I love how it acts like an artwork light. You can really see all the beautiful texture now.

We didn’t have an existing railing once we removed the original one, and haven’t for six years now. For this challenge I decided to build a custom one after not being super impressed with any of the ones I was coming across. I also decided to DIY because custom railings cost a lot of money, and we were trying to stick to a budget for this challenge.

This opening didn’t use to have a piece of wood on top, but I thought the hallway needed a little more wood tones. Speaking of opening, did you guys know we opened up this wall by ourselves? It used to be completely closed off, as you can tell from the listing photo above in this post. You can click the button below to check out more of those photos, but here’s a few for reference.

That’s it!!! What do you guys think?!? Unbelievable that that’s a wrap for our ORC! I will say this challenge was much easier to tackle than our previous two challenges. We also always tackle One Room Challenges right before vacation. As in…posting the final reveal the day before we leave! Ha!

Make sure you guys come hang out with us on Instagram! We’re giving away a Tiki Brand fire pit bundle when we hit 10K!!!

Are you guys following on Pinterest? We love sharing our DIY projects over there and what’s currently inspiring us! Click the button below to come hang! Feel free to pin any image on this post and save it to your hallway boards!
