Finishing our laundry room

We have accomplished quite a bit of projects in our home in the last five years. With those projects have come a lot of design growth in finding our style and how we want to feel in our home. Sometimes that feels like a lot of wasted time, money and energy. But that’s just apart of the game, right? While we want to automatically see our vision come to life, sometimes you have to deal with trial and error until you slowly see it being pieced together.

I can confidently say we’ve found our style, and have finally reached a cohesive vibe in our home to reflect what we love. However, there are a lot of projects that are still ‘unfinished’. Half painted walls, half caulked trim, and pieces of the original home we'd love to replace (read doors, read expensive). When it comes to these projects, my anxiety hits an all time high. I’m torn in a million different directions on things I want to finish. I get easily overwhelmed trying to “finish” all of them at the same time. It’s funny because being a type b, and not a natural list maker, I typically go with the flow in pretty much every aspect of my life. However when it comes to projects around our home I thrive when I have a solid plan in place. When I can sit down and say THIS is what we’re doing. We’re NOT going to rush it. We have ZERO time constrictions. Let’s do this. When I don’t have that plan in place is when we end up in predicaments that we’re in now.

I hate that I hesitate to host anything at our house because of unfinished spaces. However, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me to have all these imperfections. From our highlight reel Instagram feed, you’d never know that on the other side of that laundry room photo are messed up pieces of drywall, disconnected baseboards from a washer leak, and a duct taped floor vent that we cut off in the basement when we had our crawl space encapsulated. SO MANY FLAWS you guys.

However, I’m not going to let these unfinished projects cause me to feel all the feelings anymore. Instead, for my mental health, I’m going to take a completely different approach to make all the finished spaces come to life. Instead of floating all over the place trying to do all the things, I’m going to focus solely on ONE room at a time until it has been completely finished.

I feel like it’s easier to work from one end of our home to the other, not sure why, but I’m rolling with it. The laundry room is going to get a nice and affordable face lift, and we’re saying adios to all the duct tape and broken baseboards. I’m excited to bring you guys along on this journey. I have been wanting to ACTUALLY document projects, share them, and highlight them on our Instagram, but the heaviness of it all has had me taking a few steps back to reflect on how we need to move forward.

Are you guys excited? I know I am. HERE WE GO!
