How to build a bird house out of scrap wood

Today I'm going to be showing you guys how to build a bird house out of scrap wood! This past week was extremely crazy with digital learning and our youngest son had his heart set on making a bird house. So I went out into the shed to see how much scrap wood we had for this project, and we were in luck! I had a couple pieces leftover from our DIY bathroom vanity! We hopped on Pinterest and he showed me the ones he thought looked the coolest. I obviously helped add a little minimal and modern flare to it.

Here are the materials we used for this DIY birdhouse.

Materials:

1x8 oak board

2x6

1x6 oak board

Nail gun

1x1 oak board

Finishing nails

Wood glue

Miter Saw

Compressor

1.5 inch drill bit

Tutorial:

The first thing I did was cut a 25 degree angle on my red oak 1x6 scraps, and the top of my 2x6 scrap. This gave our birdhouse more of a modern twist. By cutting these three pieces at the same angle, we could attach a sloped roof (1x8 red oak board)

Repeat on the front side of the birdhouse base with your second 1x6 board.

Then you'll want to grab your last angled 1x6 scrap piece and attach it to the side of the birdhouse.

Finally, grab your slanted 1x8 roof piece and glue and nail it onto the top of your birdhouse. Do you see that hole in the front board? That was already there, and not intentional, however it was the perfect spot for our bird hole.

Using our 1x5 in spade bit, we drilled a hole so the birds could access the birdhouse.

Once we finished drilling the access hole, we lightly sanded the edges and spray painted the entire thing black!
